Learning Spaces on China’s Belt & Road Initiative and Beyond
Social Innovations Advisory (SIA) is pleased to team up with Innovation for Change (I4C) to launch Learning Spaces on China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Beyond. The objective of Learning Spaces is to strengthen Global South civil society’s understanding of and action around the Initiative by 1) organizing webinars and workshops about the BRI and related activities; and 2) facilitating greater regional coordination between activists addressing its impacts by co-designing strategies and solutions.
Inter-regional BRI Webinar Series
Three webinars: 11 March, 8 April, and 29 April
Thursdays 3 pm (Hong Kong time)
(approximately 3 hours, with around 60-80 participants)
Proposed Content
Webinar 1 (11 March): Setting the Stage. What is the BRI and how does it fit into China’s international development strategy? Who are the main actors in the BRI? What are the main BRI policies and laws?
Webinar 2 (8 April): Empowerment. What are China’s CSOs doing and what is their role in BRI? What have been the responses of international and local civil society in BRI partner countries?
Webinar 3 (29 April): Transformation. Case studies of CSOs and trade unions working to address the social and environmental impacts of Chinese overseas investment.
Regional BRI Co-Design Workshops
SIA will determine exact dates & content in partnership with I4C’s East Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, and Pacific hubs.
Requirements for Participation:
- Attendance at all inter-regional webinars is strongly encouraged. Participants from the Asia and Pacific hubs who successfully complete all 3 inter-regional webinars and the Regional Co-Design Workshop will receive a Certificate of Completion.
- Prior experience with I4C. Participants must be invited by the I4C Hub in their region.
- Proven interest and experience working on China and BRI-related issues is a plus.
